Introduction to.. Lyme Terrace
Lyme Terrace brings minimal and stylish pieces for men in sustainable fabrics, considering both the people and the planet.
Hello Alex & Andy, tell us a little about yourself and how you created Lyme Terrace!
Hello Aequem, we created Lyme Terrace because we were frustrated with the sustainable menswear offering, too many itchy hemp pieces and boring cuts. We wanted to create clothing that was aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and people could be proud of what they were contributing to.
All your pieces are organic or recycled - how do you get inspired when designing new pieces?
We usually start with the fabric. For us the touch and feel of the garment is just as important as how it looks.
For us here at Aequem sustainability is everything. Tell us what sustainability means to you and Lyme Terrace?
Sustainability is about how our clothes affect the surrounding environment and people all the way along the supply/production chain. We’ve also got a bit of a vendetta against plastics, so the packaging is also extremely important to us and the product’s sustainability.
(Lyme Terrace packaging is biodegradable and it is impregnated with wild flower seeds so it's plantable after use! How cool is that??)
We love that your Desert sweater contains 18 recycled plastic bottles in it. How did you develop this?
We went searching for a fabric that we could raise awareness about plastic pollution and luckily found an incredible fabric at a Future Fabrics Expo that contained recycled polyester. The recycled polyester fibre was traceable and allowed us to follow it all the way back to a Thai company that recycles plastic bottles used locally, so we were incredibly happy to save these from landfill and remake them into something beautiful, and shout about plastic in the Oceans a little.
How or wear do you like to wear your pieces?
We design each one of our pieces so they can be worn over and over again to any occasion. Our whole philosophy is to design modern classic pieces that our customer can use to build an outfit and express themselves over and over again, rather than try to do that for them with outrageous designs.
Okay, so now more about you…
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Hit snooze a few times, then do some stretching.
If you could wear only one thing for the rest of your life what would it be? (not including your fave pieces from your label, obviously.)
If you were a celebrity, who would you be?
Leonardo Dicaprio, what a man!
Out of your current collection, which is your favourite piece and why?
Our Organic Ribbed mock neck. We’ve been perfecting it for over a year and the versatility of it plus the warmth is really getting us going as winter creeps in.
It has been great getting to know more about you and Lyme Terrace, if you could give one piece of advice to our readers to take away with them, what would it be?
Invest in well made clothing that you love and match your values, then to quench the thirst of variety shop vintage, always going to look better than cheap fast fashion.
