Introduction to.. IXK Studio
IXK combines fine organic materials with avant-garde prints. Their versatility is a playful invitation to express oneself. The designer combines different elements, such as ancient greek prints, neolithic art, other ancient symbols and astronomy, resulting in fragmented colours, patterned surfaces and glitched imagery. We sat down with Isabel Kibler to learn more about her and the label.
Hello Isabel, tell us a little about yourself and how you created IXK Studio!
I’m Isabel Kibler, the Creative Director and CEO of IXK STUDIO, a Berlin and Vienna based photographer/art director - fashion/jewelry designer.
After I finished my studies in Berlin in 2008, I started working on collections for Teresa Helbig in Barcelona and later for Zac Posen in New York. During that episode I also worked as a stylist and art director and wanted to have extraordinary jewellery for my shoots. I couldn’t find much to match my vision so I started creating my own. This is how my first IXK jewellery collection was created in NYC in 2012.
With my cultivated expertise in Art Direction, Photography and Styling, I explored new fields in-between visual art and accessory design and extended the accessory label to involve colorful foulards in 2015.
The IXK STUDIO accessory line was launched during Paris SS16 Fashion Week And presented at the Berlin Showroom at New York Fashion Week afterwards.
The first collection featured silk scarfs and takes you on a journey through emergent deconstructed imagery printed on high quality Italian materials, the idea being that the wearer should have unlimited wearing pleasure.
The concept behind the IXK accessory line was to establish a heterogeneous but stringent imagery on design accessories. My passion, knowledge and experience come together to create something exceptional.
The IXK line combines finest high quality materials with avant-garde prints. It´s versatility is a playful invitation to express oneself boldly. All IXK foulards are handcrafted, made of the finest fair trade eco-materials, produced with great care and love.
All your pieces are so cool and inspiring! How do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere, we just have to keep our eyes and minds open to what surrounds us in everyday life.
My main focus is on finding beauty in everything. In the grotesque of nowadays fast city life as well as in the silence of nature.
My artwork also draws inspiration from the cultural history of my German -Spanish heritage. The unique craftsmanship of every piece shows my devotion to create extraordinary, contemporary clothing. I am focusing on the synergy between traditional and modern design with an eye for detail, whilst always being inventive, visionary and edgy in every creation. I see my design work and the process like weaving a web of all influences from the past, surroundings, nature and objects.
For us here at Aequem sustainability is everything. Tell us what sustainability means to you and IXK STUDIO?
Sustainability to us is key in everything we create - all products are handmade and produced in Europe. For example the silk foulards are handcrafted in Italy, made of the finest eco-materials, produced with great care and love.
Our vision is to create unique and worthy pieces that lasts a lifetime. Rather than buying pieces that need to be re bought because they break or wear away easily.
All IXK boxes are locally made in Germany out of organic materials. All packaging is plastic free. We believe in slow fashion and only make a few batches at a time.
I recently presented a new Eco-Line using waterborne ink on ecological fair-trade linen (the one available on Aequem). Thus affording the same intensity in colour whilst simultaneously thinking about the future.
We love the artwork on the foulards . How did you develop this aesthetic?
The building blocks of life, the five elements fire, water, earth, air & light inspired me to the current collection ` POSTCARDS FROM THE FUTURE '. Their interplay gives our nature, the universe, everything that surrounds us its tangible form. And we also carry them in us, why not also on us?
The actual XVIII Collection continues on the last collection´s world, where fragmented colors meet patterned surfaces and glitched imagery. Ornamental meandering prints are the collection´s signature. I play around with different ancient symbols who unite among planets and foreign galaxies in a modern interpretation of glitched outer space images, stars as well as adapted earthly sceneries. The light and colors transcend through space and time come together to create a timeless design for the fashionable human of today.
Alongside with ideas surrounding power sources and energy fields in the cosmos.. This collection represents our body, the earth and the universe. Each foulard is dedicated to an element or an adapted version of it, such as Lava and Ice, space and beyond space. Seen and unseen. Like our future.
How or where do you like to wear your pieces?
IXK-Foulards are the perfect accessoire for every outfit! We love that you can show you creativity with IXK, you can develop your own style.
You can wear it as a turban, headwrap, queen style head scarf or the lager ones as dresses, bind to your purse o trousers or just simple around your neck to protect you fom the cold.
All scarves come in varying sizes or fabric qualities and allow the wearer ample room for personal interpretation. Dress to impress with IXK!
Okay, so now more about you…
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Writing down or recording my dreams and subconscious messages, doing meditation and focusing on what I want to achieve that day :)
If you could wear only one thing for the rest of your life what would it be? (not including your fave pieces from your label, obviously.)
That would be probably a kimono piece. I love kimonos, especially colorful ones. I have one that I feel deeply connected to and inspired by everytime I wear it.
If you were a celebrity, who would you be?
I don’t have any idols, I love to be and explore myself :)
Out of your current collection, which is your favourite piece and why?
I love our foulard No. 11 WELCOME TO THE FUTURE from the actual POSTCARDS FROM THE FUTURE collection, because that’s the foulad I wear most, plus it is great for travel as you can turn the crossbody into a bum bag when you want to go hands-free. I also feel secretly proud that we came out with a modern bum bag style before it became a huge trend.
It has been great getting to know more about you and IXK STUDIO, if you could give one piece of advice to our readers to take away with them, what would it be?
Make good vibes your new comfort zone, stay tuned and balanced. Be kind and loving to yourself, to others around you and to our beautiful planet. Never forget that you are wonderful, beautiful, talented and powerful. Worthy and deserving. Blessings are always coming, believe that! Celebrate Life every day!
