Intro to.. Ergon Mykonos

ERGON Mykonos is one of our newest additions and we love their take on contemporary Greek design. We sat down with Marietta the founder and creative director to find out more about the label.

Hello Marietta, tell us a little about yourself and how you created Ergon!

Hi Aequem team! ERGON Mykonos has been created as a way of putting all our creativity, imagination, style and Greek spirit in a single brand and every time taking out a unique product, idea or piece of art. Ergon has been established more than 5 years ago as a brand that showcases the  union of several expressions of art: architecture, product design, fashion design.

As the label's founder and creative director I have managed to materialise my experience in architecture and my artistic nature into a brand that embodies my vision of daily art along with the timeless inventiveness of the Greek spirit. Since my childhood I have had strong artistic influences which were explored further with my education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. The whole Ergon team creates every product and strategy through a “brainstorming” process.

All your pieces are so intricate but effortlessly cool - how do you get inspired when designing new pieces?

Ergon Mykonos brand represents the fusion of arts, styles, cultures and eras in Greece and Internationally and is always open to new additions and challenges. The manufacturing of the textiles is made through the ancient method of the loom. In the current collection the handmade process has been replaced by the Hellenistic mechanical loom. Every motif has a repetition of 25cm, a technique followed in Greece during that period and the fabric is 100% pure organic cotton. A magical process for the creators that leads to an authentically Hellenic collection with designs, textiles and fabrics that make the woman of today feel unique. The pottery collection has strong pop influences and is a statement on its own in the design an provocativeness of the messages. All the items refer to the connection of the past with the present.

Everything is handmade and genuine in craftsmanship. We work with professionals who have mastered all of the above techniques in several areas of Greece.

For us here at Aequem sustainability is everything. Tell us what sustainability means to you and Ergon?

Sustainability is very important to us, especially when it comes to reviving ancient techniques. We support the Fair Trade movement and give our artisans and local technicians fair wages. We use paper and textiles in most of our packaging. Our handmade items are never massively produced and it is important for us to keep it this way. We also only use organic materials.

We love the craftsmanship aspect of your pieces. How did you develop this approach?

All of our collections are unique and all of them are based on the same design principles. Every new collection has a core concept, the inspiration that stems from a combination of eras and materials. This same concept is materialised through all the collections. In each art however the technique differs and on that we always follow handmade, original, forgotten techniques and genuine craftsmanship.

How or wear do you like to wear your pieces?

Ergon Mykonos resists in having a single label. It makes room for each individual to decide theirs.

Our fabrics are handmade, designed by us and created with the ancient technique of the mechanical loom thus supporting and reviving the ancient greek craftsmanship.

The fabrics are loose and wide in accordance with the historical prototypes of ancient dresses for hot climates. Covering the body to protect it from the sun, and at the same time the technique of its creation lets the body breathe and feel breezy.  Ideal for warm climates, holidays, the beach and urban environments.

We offer Free Sizes For Women That Shape the Clothes!

Okay, so now more about you…

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I feed my cats and turn on the radio

If you could wear only one thing for the rest of your life what would it be? (not including your fave pieces from your label, obviously.)

My oversized sweatshirt

If you were a celebrity, who would you be?

David Bowie

Out of your current collection, which is your favourite piece and why?

Isidora gold meander pants because its design is influenced by my beloved 80’s and I can pair it with a simple T-Shirt or any way I feel like at the time and dress up for the occasion, morning to evening.

It has been great getting to know more about you and Ergon, if you could give one piece of advice to our readers to take away with them, what would it be?

Be creative and consistent and put your soul into whatever you do.
